Bora Bora: plan every transfer
The airport is on Motu Mute, not beside Vaitape or Matira. Your first useful decision is therefore not which lagoon tour to book, but how the airport boat, accommodation transfer and final road or boat journey fit together.

Main island or resort motu?
Staying on the main island generally makes Vaitape, Matira and road travel easier. A motu resort may provide a different lagoon setting but can make every independent outing dependent on a hotel shuttle. Compare the complete stay, not only the room.
Arrival
Confirm the journey from the aircraft to the room
Airport boat
Confirm the current boat arrangement, destination quay and whether it connects with your accommodation transfer. Do not infer a schedule from an old review.
Final transfer
Ask the accommodation to name the operator, meeting point, included luggage, price and fallback if the inbound flight is delayed.
Choose a base
Match the area to the daily plan
Vaitape and nearby
Useful for shops, services and departures that use the main village. Check the exact distance and transport after dark.
Matira area
Often chosen for beach access and main-island accommodation. Confirm what is walkable, what needs a bicycle or vehicle, and the road conditions for your group.
Resort motu
Ask for every shuttle timetable and fare before booking outside restaurants or activities. A low activity price can become expensive after private transfers.
Accessible travel
Boat steps, wet landings, pontoons and vehicle access should be described in writing. “Accessible” is not precise enough for an individual requirement.
Activities
Build one lagoon day and one land day
Tahiti Tourisme lists lagoon outings, snorkeling, diving, Matira, Vaitape and land excursions among the island’s experiences. Conditions, wildlife and visibility are never guaranteed. Ask who operates the boat, group size, shade, flotation equipment, lunch, environmental rules and cancellation conditions.
On land, plan around heat and transport. Some mountain routes require a guide or technical ability; do not use a promotional summary as a route assessment. For any hike, confirm access rights, current trail state, weather and the guide’s qualifications.
Independent itinerary idea
Day 1: arrival and transfer only. Day 2: lagoon activity with a weather fallback. Day 3: Matira and Vaitape. Day 4: land excursion or rest. Keep the last day light if an onward connection follows.
